Well in fact my engine started today backwards 98% of the time.
So turning clockwise the low end needle could arrange things. Thanks.
How far should I screw it clockwise, 1 revolution ?

The needle is adjusted to make the engine run right.

Actually, if you but the big Sullivan starter (and let your colorblind buddy plug it into the flight box backwards), the .72 will start backwards almost all the time

You might also try flipping the prop backwards (using a chicken stick or heavy glove); it likely will fire and bounce back and run the right way. This is the only way I could hand start a friend's new Saito 150. Before that, flipping it the "right" way, it backfired and really stung, even through a heavy glove. I like to hand start all of my engines, even the big ones.

Well my engine runned right, when it had the chance to turn in the good direction. I started it by hand, without any starter. It had some difficulties to start when I flipped the prop in the good direction, but not when I flipped the prop in the reverse direction. The problem is, it kept running backwards. Somebody at my club told me the 4S engines were designed to start backwards. [sm=72_72.gif]

Yes sir, I make 1/8th turn changes and check the transition and top rpm after every other change. When you get close, one of the changes will make more difference than the previous ones.
PS, don't forget to keep lowering the throttle as the idle improves.

Hobbsy, thanks for the help on the Saito 50. As you suggested, I leaned the HSN to peak and then began to lean the LSN for best idle. I got nearly one full turn more on the LS than I had before, and now I can maintain a safe idle of 2000. The rich running in mid range is significantly reduced. It still sounds a bit rich in mid range, but no visible smoke.

What is so funny to me is that the guy who taught me to fly RC is totally color blind. He once bought a gas Giles that is pink and he didn't know it until he brought it home. His wife started laughing at him. I used to have fun by telling him to get the green handled screwdriver, or the red handled pliers.

I once worked with a totally color blind electronic engineer that could "read" the IEEE color bands of resistors from a black and white (grey scale) picture of an assembled circuit board, based on the shades of grey. He passed his driver's test by memorizing the position of the red and green lights on the traffic lights and could tell which one was lit. He only wore clothes of shades of grey and blue.

Thanks old fart. I bought at 90 degree bend today and was able to get the stock muffler to fit inside the cowl. Tomorrow evenring is going to be my maiden on my sundowner 50. I hope it flies well.

Some will say its the equivalent of a .15, others wll say a .25 and I say a .32, my opinion is that fourstrokes have more "flying power" than most give thm credit.

It seems that most planes in all of those sizes are now usually made for electric. I presume in the old days folks flew small planes too, didn't they?

Mike, I think the smallest I've flown was a ModelTech Cub with a Saito .30. I didn't like the plane much it was the equivalent of flying a buttlerfly. The engine was perfect for it though.

thanks for the replies. i'm new to rc. i just got thru with a herr little extra with a os10 2 stroke waiting to maiden. i've been flying little foamies. i wanted to get a 4 stroke in the .15 to .25 size
