The 72/82 do not exactly have the same beam width as the 56/62. The bigger engines are 1/8" (3mm) wider in between the beams but the bolt pattern for the mounting bolts is the same.

Hi Guys I bought my first Saito 82 and flew it in my U-can-do last week. I use Magnum 20% heli fuel. When I went to fly today when turning the engine over there was no compression my first thought was that the glow plug had for some reason come loose. On inspection the plug was still tight so I removed the rocker covers to find that the exhaust valve was jammed in open position, it was really stuck and would not readily free. Has anyone out there experienced a similar problem as I have only read good reports on these engines. I am an OS engine user and never experienced any such problems. I hope this is a one of.

I was using a 18x6W APC on my 70" edge 540 with a saito 150. It was awsome except it was causing the engine to overheat. I am looking for the right prop as well. I don't know if a 17x6 is enough. I am wondering if they make a 17x6W? My motor is at BJ's right now getting rebuilt. I will let you know what they think. They were talking to me about a 18X6.

My freind has H9 P-51 w/ Saito 1.25 and he uses an APC 16X8 and it is extremely fast and has almost no limit vertical. Just a touch over 8lbs. Not sure if this is a good comparison though. The 1.25 is a beast!!

the 18x6w is a little too much for the 150, its more a prop for the 180. i run a 17x8 on my 180 and would think a 17x6 would be better for the 150 whether its enough prop or not. that overheating may be what lead to the demise of your 150 from being overproped.

I am building a Pacific Aero Model GEE BEE "Y" 120. I am wanting to install the 170 3-cylinder radial in this plane. I hear things such as dropped cylinders, which fuel to use, which glow plugs to use, etc . . . I have never owned a radial, and I want to be sure I wount regret this purchase for this plane. What is the 170 compared to the single cyllinder SAITO as far as power? Please any comments!

Dose anyone know where to get the CAM/Engine gasket for a Saito 82?

I need the gasket to install the CAM housing. It's backorder for another month from Horizon.
I really don't understand why Saito would have this essential part be backordered for such a long time, it's not good customer service.

Have you ever tried making your own gaskets? It's pretty easy, actually. Get some paper that is the approximate thickness you need. Put some adhesive glue on it and glue it to the cam housing. Now carefully cut away the excess with an x-acto blade.

Hey guys,
I am sick of waiting for a magnum 91 on back order from tower. Bottom line, if you had to choose between a saito or an os which engine would you chose? I am looking to power my sig four star 60 and would like to be able to move to a more aggressive plane with that same engine once I am proficient with the four star. Suggestions?

Tim,
There are many engines that will do the job. Personally I love the Saito engines. A FA-100 would do the job well. It is hard to beat a well tuned Saito. It's like auto's, some like Fords and some like Chevy's. It's a matter of taste and pocketbook. Sorry, it's not much help.
